La Ronge Preschool/Prenatal Dental Program

A Dental Therapist provides:

            • -An oral health assessment for preschool children from 0 to 5 years of age.
  • -Children can receive at least two fluoride varnish applications each year, depending on  their caries (cavities) risk.
  • -Nutrition counselling relating to oral health.
  • -Children with mild/moderate cavities may be seen for treatment depending on the child’s  capabilities.  A referral will be made if we are unable to complete the treatment on site.
  • -Children with severe treatment needs are referred to an appropriate oral health  professional.
  • -Children who have dental treatment under general anaesthesia are followed up in the  community.
  • -Prenatal women can access a dental screening, oral hygiene instruction and education,  and limited preventive services including fluoride varnish.

 

  • Fluoride Varnish Drop-ins are available every Tuesday at the La Ronge Health Centre from 9-12 and 1-3:30 to all preschool children 0-5 years of age and prenatal women.

Precam Children's Dental Program

PreCam’s Children’s Dental program is delivered out of the PreCam School in LaRonge. It has a staff of two, Maureen Howell (Registered Dental Assistant) and a vacant Dental Therapist positon, which we are working to staff. At present we are serviced by visiting therapists .Services are provided to school aged children from Kindergarten to Grade 6, who have a current Consent for Participation form.

Enrolled children receive a:

    • -Screening exam
    • -Oral Hygiene Instruction
    • -2 or more Fluoride Varnish applications.
    • -Dental Sealants on permanent/primary teeth ( as assessed by the Dental Therapist)
    • -Restorative Treatment ( limited to enrolled Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 6 students)
    • -Emergency Treatment (treatment for pain and/or infection) for all enrolled students.

Gordon Denny Children's Dental Program

Gordon Denny Dental Clinic is based in Air Ronge out of Gordon Denny Community School. The dental team members are: Rhonda Eldridge (Dental Therapist) & Mayriel Madronio (Dental Aide). Services are provided to enrolled school-aged children from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 6.

Enrolled children receive a:

  • -Screening Exam.
  • -Oral hygiene instruction.
  • -At least 2 Fluoride Varnish applications, depending on their caries (cavities) risk.
  • -Dental sealants on permanent/primary teeth.
  • -Restorative treatment. (Limited to Pre-K, Kindergarten, Grade 1, & Grade 6.)
  • -Emergency treatment (treatment of pain/infection) for all children.
  • -Children with severe treatment needs are referred for general anaesthesia.
  • -When required, children will be referred to an appropriate oral health professional. (Oral -    Surgeon, Orthodontist).

Creighton Children's Dental Program

The Children’s Dental Program in Creighton is delivered out of the Creighton Community School in Creighton. The Dental Program employs one full time Registered Dental Assistant, Wanda Finlay. Dental Therapy services are provided, on an interim basis, by Dental Therapists from LaRonge. Services are available to all children ages 0-16 with a current consent form (Consent for Participation Form).

Enrolled children (with current consent) receive:

  • -A screening exam (done by the Dental Therapist)
  • -Oral hygiene instruction (with child and/or caregiver)
  • -At least 2 Fluoride varnish applications per school year
  • -Dental sealants on permanent molars (and primary molars if deemed necessary)

-Children in Pre-K, Kindergarten, Grade One and Grade Six are eligible for restorative services;  however, parents are encouraged to take their child to their family dentist for these services    as Creighton does not have a permanent Dental Therapist.

All families are encouraged to have a family dentist as the Children’s Dental Program services are not a replacement but rather a compliment to private practice and their services.

Fluoride varnish applications for preschoolers are also available from the Public Health Nurse during Child Health Clinics, from the Dental Assistant during visits to the Headstart program (visits are in October and April), or by calling Wanda at the Creighton Dental Clinic to arrange an appointment.

Sandy Bay Children's Dental Program

The Children’s Dental Program delivers dental health education, diagnostic, preventive and limited restorative dental services to eligible children 16 years of age and under in the Health Region.

  • -Preventative services for all children which includes screening, sealants, oral hygiene      education, fluoride applications and selective polishing and scaling.
  • - Emergency dental treatment for all children (treatment for pain or infection).
  • -Dental treatment is limited to restorative care for preschool, kindergarten, grade 1, grade  6 and grade 7 children.
  • -Dental education is provided to schools and community groups. This includes: Fluoride    varnish to Daycare, Preschool and Child Health Clinics.
  • -Children with mild/moderate cavities may be seen for treatment depending on the    child’s capabilities. A referral will be made if we are unable to complete the treatment on  site.
  • -Children with severe treatment needs are referred to an appropriate oral health            professional.Children who have dental treatment under general anaesthesia are followed  up in the community.

 

Fluoride Varnish Drop-ins are available every Thursday at the Sandy Bay Dental Clinic located in the Hector Thiboutot Community School from 9-12 and 1-3:30 to all preschool children 0-5 years of age and prenatal women.

Pinehouse Children's Dental Program

Children’s Dental Program in Pinehouse Lake is open Monday -Friday from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

The clinic is located in the elementary school but services are available for both elementary and high school students. Services are also extended to include the teen infant daycare, preschool, and community daycare. Services provided include: dental exams, fluoride varnishes, oral hygiene instruction, sealants, x-rays and when required, treatment such as fillings, extractions and stainless steel crowns (primary teeth only).
